The Processional is marked by the repetition of the two conjunct perfect fourths outlining the interval of a minor seventh. Music for Viola and Piano. Cast in three movements titled, respectively, Rapsodie, Processional, and Affirmation, the Suite is not nearly as intense as the “Jewish Cycle”; indeed, it is more closely linked to Baal Shem.
Most of the movement is forceful, with barely repressed emotion and a few telling dissonances. The opening Rapsodie’s languorous main theme contains some Hebraic inflections. They are in the style of his Baal Shem Suite, though of a different color as he had the viola in mind at first.

The Suite thus closes on a definite note of affirmation. The Suite seems to have evolved from a group fo five pieces for viola and piano, two of which are published as Meditation and Processional by G.
The closing movement, in ABA form, features a jaunty tune in “Bloch rhythm” and another melody with a Hebraic allusion, including the augmented second. Laderman’s nephew, Ezra Laderman, is a distinguished contemporary composer.
